  • This incident follows a recent controversy involving another minister in the government.
  • The coalition government is under increased scrutiny after multiple scandals.

Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Josip Dabro has officially resigned following the release of disturbing footage capturing him shooting from a moving vehicle. The video, which emerged recently, depicts Dabro sitting in the passenger seat, laughing and enjoying loud music before picking up a pistol to fire it out the open window into what appears to be a populated area. In his statement on social media, Dabro, who also served as the Minister for Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, expressed that he did not want his actions to become a distraction for the government led by conservative Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic (source).

Despite claiming the footage was filmed years ago while utilizing training bullets, the government criticized his behavior as "inappropriate and irresponsible" (source). In his resignation statement, Dabro highlighted that ongoing pressures and threats relating to his efforts to reform the ministry were affecting his ability to contribute to governmental priorities. He described his focus on implementing greater transparency in the agricultural sector amidst significant challenges.

Dabro's departure raises further concerns for the coalition government, which recently faced another scandal involving the dismissal of Health Minister Vili Bros amid corruption allegations. Following a recent presidential election that saw Zoran Milanovic secure a second term, the atmosphere within the coalition remains tense as the backlash from this incident and previous controversies reverberates across the political landscape.
