MUMBAI: In a remarkable display of quick thinking, Bhajan Singh, the auto driver who transported actor Saif Ali Khan to Lilavati Hospital after a violent attack at the actor's home, acted solely out of concern for a seriously injured passenger. Singh, residing in a chawl on Pipeline Road in Khar (East), recollected how he noticed "a profusely bleeding person" as soon as he was flagged down by Khan's domestic help, Hari.
During the urgent journey, the severely injured Khan, clad in a blood-soaked outfit, remained conscious and inquired repeatedly about their destination. Singh assured him, "It would only take two minutes" to reach the hospital. While the situation was critical, Singh noted that Khan exhibited remarkable calmness given his injuries, which included multiple stab wounds to his neck and near his spine. Upon their arrival, medical staff swiftly took Khan inside on a stretcher for emergency treatment.
Despite the heroism displayed, Singh was later summoned for questioning by police regarding a potential connection to a nearby burglary case. The investigation remains ongoing, with the assailant still on the run. Over thirty police teams are searching for the intruder who attacked Khan in the early hours of Thursday. After a successful surgery, Khan is recovering and is expected to be discharged within a few days.
Singh expressed that his primary goal was to help, stating, "I didn't think of asking for the fare... just knowing I could help someone like him in such a dire moment was a reward in itself."
