  • The Genesis Invitational will not take place at Riviera Country Club this year due to devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
  • The tournament is scheduled for February 10-16, 2025, with a new venue yet to be announced.
  • The PGA Tour is focused on community support and relief efforts for those impacted by the fires.
  • Tiger Woods, the host of the event, expressed his condolences and support for the victims of the wildfires.

The PGA Tour has announced the relocation of the Genesis Invitational, long hosted at the prestigious Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, due to the catastrophic wildfires that have impacted areas of Los Angeles. Originally set for February 13-16, 2025, the tournament is now seeking an alternate location. In their statement, the PGA Tour emphasized that their priority remains on the well-being and safety of those affected by this unprecedented natural disaster. The decision comes in light of the tragic circumstances resulting from the fires, which have claimed at least 27 lives and devastated thousands of homes across the area, with approximately 170,000 residents still under evacuation orders (AP News, Reuters, LA Times, CNN).

The PGA Tour is also exploring ways in which the Genesis Invitational can positively impact the local community, particularly through relief efforts aimed at supporting those most severely affected (LA Times). “We are grateful for the first responders and their unyielding efforts to combat the wildfires,” the Tour stated. The announcement of a new venue for the tournament will be made in the coming days, as discussions about suitable alternatives are ongoing.

Notably, this will be the first instance since 1998 that the Genesis Invitational, formerly known as the Los Angeles Open, will not be held at Riviera, a course that has witnessed numerous historic golf moments (Reuters). Tiger Woods, who has hosted this event since 2019, conveyed his heartfelt sentiments towards those enduring the hardships caused by the fires. He remarked, “The devastation that is ongoing with the LA fires is such a tragedy and being from California, it hits home.” Woods pledged continued support for the affected communities through charitable efforts.

As preparations for the event continue and a new venue is finalized, the PGA Tour remains committed to aligning their golfing events with the broader needs of their community amidst this crisis.
