According to reports from CBS News, Jabbar, 42, had researched how to access balconies on Bourbon Street and sought information on Mardi Gras festivities and various past shootings in the city.

Hours prior to launching a deadly attack by plowing a pickup truck into a New Year's gathering, Jabbar looked up details about a vehicle attack that had occurred just ten days earlier at a Christmas market in Germany that resulted in multiple casualties. In that incident, a man used a rented SUV to intentionally crash into a crowd, killing six and injuring over 200, as mentioned in USA Today.

In total, Jabbar killed fourteen people in his own attack and injured over fifty-seven others before he was fatally shot in a confrontation with the police.
