  • Javier Milei has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Genesis Prize for his strong support of Israel.
  • Milei will relocate Argentina's embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing it as Israel’s capital.
  • The $1 million prize will be donated to initiatives fighting antisemitism worldwide.
  • This is the first time a sitting head of state has received the Genesis Prize.
  • Milei's approval rating is above 50%, despite facing economic challenges in Argentina.

In a significant honor, Argentinian President Javier Milei has been awarded the 2025 Genesis Prize for his dedication to supporting Israel. This prestigious accolade, known for recognizing individuals for their professional achievements and commitment to Jewish values, was announced by organizers in Jerusalem on Tuesday.

Milei, during his initial year in office, has controversially announced plans to transfer Argentina’s embassy to Jerusalem, thereby joining a select number of countries that acknowledge this contentious city as Israel's capital. His advocacy at the United Nations for Israel and promises to seek justice for the bombings targeting Israeli and Jewish sites in Argentina during the 1990s further underscore his strong alignment with Israeli interests.

Praising the resilience of the Jewish community, Milei remarked, “This spirit is a cornerstone of the relationship between Argentina and Israel, and I will work to further strengthen our ties.” The awarded $1 million prize will be allocated to initiatives combating antisemitism both in Argentina and internationally.

Having recently completed his first year in office, Milei's leadership and approaches have incited mixed reactions. Although he has implemented stringent austerity measures leading to increased unemployment and poverty, inflation rates in Argentina appear to be stabilizing, with his approval ratings now hovering slightly above 50%.

This award marks a historic moment, being the first Genesis Prize granted to a current head of state, as noted by Stan Polovets, the chairman. "Despite the enormous challenges in his home country, he made it his top priority to stand by Israel at its most difficult hour," Polovets commented.

The Genesis Prize gala, where the award is usually presented annually in June attended by Israel's Prime Minister, has previously seen recipients such as Michael Bloomberg, Steven Spielberg, and Barbra Streisand among others noted for their contributions to society and humanitarian efforts.
