In a bold move towards strengthening its artificial intelligence (AI) framework, Microsoft has officially created a new engineering division known as CoreAI - Platform and Tools. This division, which focuses on developing core AI technologies and tools, will be spearheaded by Jay Parikh, who previously served as Facebook’s global head of engineering. The announcement was made by CEO Satya Nadella in an internal memo shared with employees on January 13, 2025 (Business Insider).

In his email, Nadella highlighted the disruptive potential of AI, stating, “2025 will be about model-forward applications that reshape all application categories.” He emphasized that this stage in AI development aligns closely with previous seminal shifts in technology, such as the introduction of graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and cloud computing.
