DUMKA: In a shocking incident in Sahibganj district, a 40-year-old mother was apprehended, while her 15-year-old daughter was sent to a juvenile observation center after they allegedly killed Raju Mandal, a 25-year-old man who had been harassing them. This chilling account was confirmed by local police, who stated that Raju would intrude into their home at night, often under the influence of alcohol, and engage in inappropriate behavior towards the daughter for the past two months.
The police highlighted that despite enduring continuous harassment, the family did not file any formal complaints about the incidents. The mother, in explaining the events leading up to the tragedy, mentioned that they felt increasingly powerless as local villagers offered no assistance. In an attempt to stop the persistent intrusions, they set a trap using a bamboo pole wrapped with exposed electrical wire at their doorstep.
On the night of the incident, when Mandal tried to enter their home, he came into contact with the live wire and was electrocuted. "Their actions were fueled by desperation after being subjected to continuous harassment," said a police officer, reflecting on the motive behind their drastic measures. Following the tragic event, the mother and daughter were quickly taken into custody, facing serious charges of murder.
This case has raised critical discussions about the safety of women and the urgent need for protective measures against stalking. As the investigation unfolds, both the police and the community face questions about the underlying societal issues regarding harassment and the adequacy of legal protections for victims.
