The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has officially postponed the announcement of this year's Oscar nominations for the second time due to ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The new date for the nominations is now set for January 23, having originally been scheduled for this Friday and then moved to January 19. The Academy's leadership, including CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang, explained in a statement, "Due to the still-active fires in the Los Angeles area, we feel it is necessary to extend our voting period and move the date of our nominations announcement to allow additional time for our members" (SCMP).
In addition to the nominations, the annual Oscar nominees lunch, which was slated for February 10, has also been canceled. However, the Academy Awards ceremony is still expected to be held on March 2.
In contrast, the organizers of the Grammys confirmed that their ceremonies will proceed as planned on February 2. They have emphasized a commitment to raise funds for wildfire relief efforts while honoring the heroes who put their lives at risk to protect others, stating, "This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders" (Reuters).
