The German military is launching a new division specifically for territorial defence, consolidating all reserve units under army command.
The reorganization will be implemented by April 2025, increasing German divisions to a total of four without adding to the current 180,000 soldiers.
The move is critical as NATO faces its highest alert level since the Cold War, amidst concerns of a potential Russian attack on European borders.
This division will focus on domestic defence, protecting vital infrastructure like ports and logistics routes, in response to alleged acts of Russian sabotage.
Germany is preparing to act as a major logistics hub for NATO, facilitating the movement of reinforcement troops during any conflict.
