AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakant confirmed a boycott of the Erode East bypoll set for Feb 5.
The parties' leaders expressed concerns over the DMK's alleged misuse of power, violence, and voter intimidation as motivations for their decision.
Palaniswami emphasized that elections would not be conducted fairly, stating, “the people will not be allowed to cast their votes freely.”
Additionally, they accused the DMK of past offenses, including distributing cash and threats to voters during previous elections.
DMDK leader Premalatha criticized the DMK for securing victory through anti-democratic means, suggesting the forthcoming election would follow the same pattern.
