In a private meeting with Republican senators, Trump detailed an ambitious agenda that he plans to expedite as he takes office on Inauguration Day, January 20. According to Trump’s senior adviser, Stephen Miller, key measures concerning immigration enforcement are likely to be prioritized.

Senator John Hoeven, R-N.D., commented on the expected actions, stating, “There will be a substantial number,” reflecting the extensive framework of border safety and energy development that Trump’s administration intends to pursue. This rapid series of executive orders aims to bypass the usual legislative processes that can delay policy enactment, a strategy that many view as unprecedented in recent U.S. history.

The anticipated executive orders will likely include significant policy reversals aimed at undoing many of the initiatives established by the outgoing Biden administration. Among the prominent measures being discussed are the completion of the U.S.-Mexico border wall and the establishment of immigration detention facilities for housing migrants before their expulsion. Senators have noted that Trump's early plans are projected to encompass approximately $100 billion in funding proposals, which will be a focus of discussions within the GOP Congress during forthcoming budget reconciliation efforts.

In their briefing, senators learned that Trump is likely to reinstate stringent measures akin to those utilized during his previous term, such as mandating that migrants apply for asylum from other countries or remain in Mexico while their applications are processed. There will also be intensive enforcement actions targeting undocumented individuals already within U.S. borders. Senator James Lankford, R-Okla., indicated that initial focuses will be on over a million migrants who entered recently and are excluded from legal status. He described these individuals as “the low-hanging fruit,” suggesting a systematic approach to processing their status.

While Trump has previously joked about having a “tiny desk” prepared for signing executive actions on Inauguration Day, there are currently no indications that this will take place. Nevertheless, Republican senators plan to welcome him into the Capitol to fulfill standard procedures, such as signing documents for Cabinet nominations.
