Russia and Ukraine have completed a prisoner exchange of over 300 POWs, ahead of New Year’s Eve, mediated by the UAE.
While the Russian Defence Ministry reported the transfer of 150 Ukrainian prisoners, Ukraine's President Zelenskyy said 189 Ukrainians were welcomed home.
The discrepancy in reported numbers was not explained, highlighting the complexities of such exchanges.
Among the freed were two civilians captured in Mariupol, with Zelenskyy expressing gratitude to the UAE for their assistance.
This marks the 60th prisoner exchange since the conflict began in February 2022, with efforts continuing to secure the release of remaining captives.
