The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged China to share data regarding the origins of the Covid pandemic as the five-year anniversary approaches.
The WHO described the lack of transparency as a hindrance to global preparedness for future health crises, stating, "This is a moral and scientific imperative."
Suspicion remains about whether the virus emerged from animals or escaped from a Wuhan laboratory, despite various scientific analyses suggesting a natural origin.
The WHO highlighted its response actions taken early in 2020 and called for honoring those affected by the pandemic while committing to learn from it.
Despite declaring Covid-19 no longer a global emergency in May 2023, the WHO warns of potential future health threats and the need for continued vigilance.
