The US House of Representatives approved a bill imposing sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) in response to arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant.
The legislation, named the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act, passed with significant support, achieving a vote of 243 to 140.
This bill aims to penalise anyone assisting the ICC in actions against US citizens or allies opposing the court's authority, including freezing assets and visa denials.
Critics, including human rights groups, argue that the bill undermines efforts for global justice and threatens the independence of the ICC.
The legislation may quickly progress through the Republican-led Senate, with potential for signature by President-elect Donald Trump.
