Meta is discontinuing its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, including the elimination of LGBTQ+ themed user options.
The changes come after a meeting between CEO Mark Zuckerberg and President-elect Donald Trump, alongside the appointment of Trump ally Joel Kaplan to key policy positions.
Meta cites a shifting “legal and policy landscape” as the reason for these decisions, leading to the removal of its dedicated DEI team and the easing of hiring practices.
Other companies, like McDonald’s and Ford, are also scaling back their DEI efforts amid political pressures.
The company has amended its moderation policies to allow previously restricted speech, raising concerns about the impact on marginalized communities.
