2024 has been officially confirmed as the hottest year in recorded history for both the world’s lands and oceans, according to US scientists.
The temperature increase was reported to be 1.46°C (2.6°F) above pre-industrial levels, marking a 0.1°C (0.18°F) rise compared to 2023.
This event emphasizes a concerning trend, with all 10 of the hottest years recorded since 1850 occurring within the past decade.
Notable effects of this heat included worsening climate events globally, such as extreme weather, record temperatures in affected regions, and severe rainfall shortages.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasizes that immediate climate action is essential to address the escalating crisis.
