The Spanish search-and-rescue vessel Talía responded to a call about a drifting inflatable boat 97 nautical miles from Lanzarote.
Upon arrival, they found 64 individuals on board, including a pregnant woman who had just given birth.
The captain, Domingo Trujillo, noted the calm demeanor of the passengers during the rescue, which was unusual.
After ensuring the safety of the mother and child, they were evacuated by helicopter to a local hospital, where both are reportedly doing well.
This incident highlights the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the perilous Atlantic migration route, with increasing numbers of births occurring during such treacherous journeys.
