Tesla has initiated a recall affecting more than 239,000 vehicles due to critical issues with their rearview camera systems. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem arises from a potential short circuit in the computer circuit board, which may lead to the rearview camera failing to display images, thus raising the risk of accidents.

The affected models include the 2024-2025 Model 3, Model S, 2023-2025 Model X, and 2023-2025 Model Y. Although the safety of drivers and passengers is at stake, Tesla has stated that they are "not aware of any collisions, injuries, or fatalities related to the condition," as reported by Newsweek.

To address the issue, Tesla has released a free over-the-air software update that will rectify the rearview camera malfunction. In addition, the company plans to replace the computer systems of any vehicles that may have experienced a circuit board failure, ensuring compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, related to rear visibility.

Notification letters to vehicle owners are set to be mailed by March 7, 2025. Owners experiencing issues can reach out to Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 or refer to the NHTSA hotlines for further assistance. Notably, this recall follows a significant action in December 2023, where Tesla previously recalled around 2 million vehicles due to issues with the Autopilot system.

The current recall coincides with an ongoing investigation by the NHTSA into approximately 2.6 million Tesla vehicles, sparked by multiple reports linking crashes to the vehicles' remote Smart Summon feature, which allows users to remotely maneuver their cars using a smartphone app, as detailed by USA Today.
