New York election officials are being urged to investigate allegations of voter fraud against Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is under scrutiny for casting his November ballot from an address deemed a "sham." This inquiry is particularly significant as Kennedy seeks confirmation for a leading public health role in the Trump administration. The progressive watchdog group Accountable.US has formally requested the state Division of Election Law Enforcement to assess whether Kennedy violated any laws by voting by mail from a discredited address in the affluent suburbs of New York City.
Last summer, a state judge removed Kennedy from the presidential ballot in New York, determining that the rented bedroom in Katonah he claimed as his residence was not legitimate. The court found credible evidence indicating that Kennedy actually resided in California, where he shares a home with his wife, actress Cheryl Hines of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" fame. Following the ruling, Kennedy attempted to appeal the decision but was unsuccessful.
The complaint filed with the elections office points out that public records reveal Kennedy was registered to vote last November at the same address that was invalidated by the judge, and he cast his vote via mail. The complaint outlines that, as the defendant in the previous case, Kennedy was unequivocally aware he did not legally reside at the Katonah address when he chose to vote from there.
Kennedy is now positioned as President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for the Department of Health and Human Services, where he is anticipated to encounter rigorous questioning regarding his controversial anti-vaccine views. Efforts to elicit comments from New York's election enforcement division, Trump’s transition team, and Kennedy's former campaign spokesperson remain ongoing.
Kennedy has maintained that he relocated to California a decade prior to be closer to his wife, asserting that he always intended to return to New York. He claimed to have rented a room in a friend's home in Katonah, located about 40 miles north of Midtown Manhattan, although he noted he had only stayed in that room once due to extensive campaign travel.
