President Joe Biden celebrated a significant milestone on Wednesday, becoming a great-grandfather for the first time as his granddaughter, Naomi Biden Neal, welcomed a baby boy named William Brannon Neal IV at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. President Biden, who is 82 years old, is believed to be the first sitting president to achieve this family milestone while in office, a historic moment noted by AP News.

During a briefing on the devastating wildfires sweeping through Southern California, Biden announced the joyous news, stating, “The good news is I’m a great-grandfather as of today.” Although he initially misstated the baby's gender, he quickly corrected himself, adding, “10-pound, 4-ounce baby girl—wait, baby boy.” The proud grandparents spent about 40 minutes visiting Naomi and her newborn before resuming discussions on the wildfire crisis affecting the area, as detailed by Los Angeles Times.

Naomi, the daughter of Hunter Biden, had undergone a planned cesarean section on the same day. Biden remarked on the delicate timing of his trip to Los Angeles, as it followed recent travel engagements in New Orleans as well as scheduled events earlier in the week that were postponed due to ongoing fires.

First Lady Jill Biden took to Instagram soon after the birth, posting a heartfelt photo of the family together with William. The couple had been there for the birth, providing a comforting presence for Naomi, who was married to Peter Neal in November 2022 during a historic White House ceremony, becoming the first president's granddaughter to wed there, according to HuffPost.

Biden, while expressing happiness over the birth, also shared news regarding his son Hunter’s home in Malibu, which was feared to be destroyed by the fires but might have been spared after updates from local officials.

This moment adds to the Biden family's legacy as they now include four generations living during the president's term, a fact highlighted by The Hill.
