Allison Holker, the widow of late dancer and choreographer Stephen "tWitch" Boss, faces significant backlash from Boss' family and friends following her recent interview. In a candid discussion with USA TODAY, Holker shared shocking details regarding her late husband's life, including allegations of drug use.
In the interview aimed at promoting her memoir, "This Far," which releases in February, Holker described a distressing discovery made just before Boss' funeral: a "cornucopia" of drugs, including pills and mushrooms, hidden in shoeboxes. "It was a really triggering moment for me... there were a lot of things I discovered in our closet that I did not know existed," Holker stated, expressing her alarm and confusion over the situation, which she described as pivotal in processing her grief.
The allegations, however, have not been well received by Boss' family and friends, who are incensed by Holker's revelations and willingness to share such personal details. One family member, writing under the name @wthDARIELLE, accused Holker of tarnishing Boss' legacy and stated that he was not addicted to drugs, asserting, "He wasn't an addict. He smoked weed and was actively trying to quit. He wasn't some junkie" (source: HuffPost).
Moreover, the same relative alleged that Holker had made family members sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to attend Boss' funeral, suggesting that she is now exploiting the situation for financial gain through her memoir. Courtney Platt, a close friend of Boss, echoed similar sentiments in a social media post, labeling Holker’s actions as “tacky” and “classless.” Platt criticized Holker for publicly airing grievances about Boss' issues while having previously bound family members with confidentiality agreements at the funeral.
In her defense, Holker replied to the criticism, indicating that her aim is to help others feel comfortable seeking support and discussing their struggles. "I’ll always love you. Just trying to help people feel safe to ask for help and support,” she remarked.
The surrounding controversy has prompted strong reactions on social media, with various public figures chiming in on the sensitive topic, demonstrating a divide in opinions regarding Holker's approach to mourning her husband and discussing his hidden battles.
As the conversation around mental health and substance use persists, many are left questioning the ethics behind public revelations about personal pain and the legacy of loved ones who have passed away.
