The Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) announced on January 7, 2025, that they will retire two of their cookie flavors, Girl Scout S'mores and Toast-Yay!, at the conclusion of this year's cookie season. S'mores cookies, inspired by the classic campfire treat, were launched in 2017, while Toast-Yay!, reminiscent of French toast, debuted in 2021.

In an effort to notify fans well in advance, this marks the first time that a flavor discontinuation is announced ahead of schedule, allowing customers to purchase their favorites before they vanish. A GSUSA spokesperson elaborated, saying, “We routinely reevaluate our cookie lineup to make room for new innovations. Discontinuing Toast-Yay! and Girl Scout S'mores may lead to something new and delicious” (NPR).

The cookie season spans from January through April, but dates may vary by location. Fans of the retiring flavors are encouraged to purchase them either in person at booth sales or through the online Girl Scout Cookie Finder. Wendy Lou, the chief revenue officer for GSUSA, emphasized that “the funds girls earn throughout the season directly power girls' journeys in leadership, entrepreneurship, and community building” (Salon).

Since their inception in the early 20th century, Girl Scout cookies have evolved dramatically, with new flavors frequently introduced and retired. While the most popular cookies—such as Thin Mints and Samoas—remain safe, the changes highlight the dynamic nature of the Girl Scout cookie offerings in response to market trends and consumer preferences.

As fans prepare for this year's sales, they might reflect on the rich history of the cookie program, which is often viewed as the largest entrepreneurial initiative in the world, selling around 200 million boxes annually.
