Zion Williamson made his triumphant return to the court for the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday, showcasing his athleticism and power after a prolonged absence due to a hamstring injury. Williamson participated in 28 minutes, scoring 22 points in the Pelicans' 104-97 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He executed several impressive dunks, including a spectacular 360-degree dunk that displayed his explosive style.
Following the game, he expressed confidence, stating, “I definitely feel like my legs are already under me,” but remained uncertain about his ability to play on consecutive nights early in his recovery. Coach Willie Green praised Williamson’s performance, noting he looked “as good as I’ve seen him after being out for as long as he’s been” (AP News).
However, in a surprising twist, the Pelicans have ruled Williamson out for their upcoming game against the Portland Trail Blazers. This game will mark the continuation of his recovery from the left hamstring strain that has plagued him throughout his career. Williamson has missed more games due to injuries than he has played since being drafted first overall in 2019, participating in just seven out of 37 games this season, with the Pelicans struggling significantly in his absence (USA Today).
The Pelicans will face Portland, followed by a matchup against Philadelphia, as they hope to reintegrate Williamson carefully into the lineup.
