The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced the relocation of the upcoming tri-nation One-Day International (ODI) series, featuring South Africa and New Zealand, from Multan to Lahore and Karachi. This decision comes as part of the preparations for the Champions Trophy, scheduled to commence on February 19.
The PCB stated that advanced preparations at the renowned Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the National Bank Stadium in Karachi necessitated this move. The tri-series is set to take place from February 8-14 in these newly renovated stadiums, a significant upgrade to host an ICC tournament for the first time since 1996.
Improvements include a capacity boost to 35,000 fans at Gaddafi Stadium, which is also set to feature two giant digital replay screens. Karachi's National Bank Stadium has welcomed refurbishments, adding 5,000 new seats alongside new player enclosures. Meanwhile, similar enhancements are underway at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium to enhance the overall fan experience.
PCB's multi-million dollar investment aims to elevate Pakistan's reputation as a premier cricketing destination and ensure a successful hosting of the Champions Trophy. With India scheduled to play all its matches in Dubai due to an agreement barring travel between the two nations for ICC events, the tournament structure places significant emphasis on the performance of teams in Lahore and Karachi.
