The UK music industry generated a record £2.4 billion in revenue from streaming subscriptions and physical music sales in the past year.
Streaming subscriptions surpassed £2 billion for the first time, with a 7.4% increase in overall music revenues, according to the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA).
Taylor Swift's album, The Tortured Poets Department, was the best-selling album, contributing significantly to total album sales which reached 201.4 million.
While streaming still accounts for the majority of music revenue, the ERA emphasized that digital and physical sales are complementary for the music market.
Concerns remain over fair compensation for artists, with industry figures highlighting the need for a reassessment of streaming revenue distribution.
