Thirteen Cuban soldiers are reported missing following a series of explosions that rocked an arms and ammunition depot in the eastern province of Holguin, as confirmed by Cuba's armed forces late on Tuesday. The violent blasts startled the rural community of Melones, located approximately 450 miles south and east of Havana, during the early hours of Tuesday.
Officials initially stated that the explosions were triggered by a fire at a construction site, but the incident remains under active investigation. Reports from Cuba’s military indicated that four officers and nine soldiers are among the missing personnel.
Videos shared on social media depicted dense plumes of smoke and flames rising above the treetops near Melones, leading to security measures being implemented. Soldiers and local police are currently overseeing access to the area as rescue teams and firefighters work to manage the situation. Furthermore, officials reported that a total of 361 residents have been evacuated to safety following the explosion.
