Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced that MediaTek will be selling a new desktop central processor chip developed in collaboration with Nvidia, which was unveiled during CES 2025.

The desktop computer, named Project DIGITS, is powered by Nvidia's latest "Blackwell" AI chip and is priced at US$3,000. It incorporates a new central processing unit, or CPU, designed cooperatively by both companies. During an investor presentation, Huang shared insights on how this partnership aims to create an energy-efficient CPU for wider distribution.

"Now they could provide that to us, and they could keep that for themselves and serve the market. And so it was a great win-win,"

said Huang, highlighting the collaborative nature of their relationship. As mentioned in a prior report by SCMP, Nvidia's efforts with this CPU are intended to challenge the dominance of established players like Intel, Advanced Micro Devices, and Qualcomm in the computing market.

The Project DIGITS computer, however, is not yet produced for mass consumption; it operates on a Linux-based system aimed specifically at AI developers. Huang stated that these developers represent the primary audience for this new device.

Further emphasizing Nvidia's commitment, Huang hinted at additional plans for the desktop CPU while withholding specific details, remarking, "You know, obviously we have plans." He further elaborated on Nvidia's strategy to bridge the Linux environment favored by developers with Microsoft's Windows system, leveraging the Windows Subsystem for Linux technology that allows the use of both systems concurrently.

"We’re going to make that a mainstream product," he asserted, ensuring support for high-quality software to facilitate access for end-users through PC manufacturers.
