Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, expressed skepticism about Mohamed Salah’s ability to thrive in his struggling team. Ahead of the League Cup semi-final against Liverpool, which kicks off on Wednesday, Postecoglou reflected on the current plight of Tottenham, who have recently dropped to 12th place in the Premier League and have lost three of their last four matches, including a significant 6-3 loss to Liverpool in December.

Salah, a prominent figure for Liverpool, has demonstrated remarkable form with 21 goals and 17 assists in all competitions this season. Nevertheless, Postecoglou believes that even the talented Egyptian would find it challenging to replicate such success at Spurs, due to the systemic issues within the team. “Mo is a world-class player, but if you put him in our team now I’m not sure he’ll have that same level of performance because of the situation we’re in as a group,” he stated, emphasizing the lack of form, cohesive defense, and goal-scoring opportunities for his players (BBC).

Further highlighting the struggles of Tottenham’s squad, Postecoglou noted that the players are "relying on individual moments" to create chances. He also pointed out Son Heung-min, Tottenham’s captain, who is enduring a quieter season with only seven goals. In contrast, Postecoglou confidently asserted that Son would shine if playing for Liverpool: “I’d hazard to say that if you put Sonny in Liverpool's team, I reckon his goalscoring return would be decent,” he remarked (Reuters).

As both teams prepare for the upcoming clash, the remarks from Postecoglou underscore the urgent need for tactical improvements and morale boosts ahead of a challenging fixture against one of the Premier League's leading teams.
