FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. —

Two bodies were found in the landing gear compartment of a JetBlue aircraft at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, authorities reported. The bodies were discovered during a routine post-flight maintenance inspection on Monday night.

The aircraft had recently operated as Flight 1801 from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. It landed at approximately 11:10 p.m. local time.

JetBlue emphasized that the identities of the deceased individuals remain unknown and the circumstances regarding how they accessed the aircraft are under investigation. "This is a heartbreaking situation, and we are committed to working closely with authorities to support their efforts to understand how this occurred,” said a JetBlue spokesperson.

Paramedics declared both victims dead at the scene, and the Broward County sheriff's office is investigating, with homicide and crime scene units responding. There appears to be "no involvement of the flight crew or operation of the airplane," according to a statement from the National Transportation Safety Board.

This is not the first incident of this nature; just two weeks earlier, a body was found in the wheel well of a United Airlines plane after its journey from Chicago to Maui. Instances of stowaways attempting such dangerous methods of travel are not uncommon, raising serious concerns surrounding airport security.
