Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko apologized over the phone regarding Belarus' role in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy recalled being woken up by missile strikes and recalling the phone conversation with Lukashenko shortly after the invasion began.
During the call, Lukashenko allegedly suggested that Ukraine should hit an oil refinery in Belarus in retaliation.
Lukashenko's spokesperson denied the apology, asserting that there was nothing to apologize for and claiming Lukashenko criticized Zelenskyy's policies during the call.
Belarus has been closely allied with Russia and facilitated its military operations against Ukraine since the early days of the conflict.
